Mandatory Volunteerism?

The House passed the The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act, known as the GIVE Act by a vote of 321-105.

The really scary part is the creation of a commission on "whether a workable, fair and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the nation."

I'm sorry but this is just way too scary. Does anyone remember history? I wonder who will be forced to "Volunteer?"

  1. I find it timely to introduce this legislation while many are being laid off, are losing their homes, etc.
Volunteering is great, but its largely a privelage of the young and those who don't have to work. This is just plain elitist, bumper-sticker liberal nonsense.
